Very often, our clients confuse the concepts of “document legalization,” “document recognition,” and “nostrification.”
In this note, we will define legalization.
But first, a common mistake. People from the Transnistrian region often consider the procedure of replacing their documents with Moldovan documents as a legalization procedure. This is incorrect. Legalization involves the procedure of recognizing certain documents by the relevant authorities of one side and the other—by two states.
First, Transnistria does not exist on the map. Therefore, the question of legalization is not relevant at all.
Second, Transnistrian documents do not grant the right to use them outside of Transnistria. That is, these documents are just pieces of paper.
What is the solution? Do not mislead others. This is not legalization. It is a complete replacement of Transnistrian documents with documents of the Republic of Moldova.
By the way, your Transnistrian documents, except for the passport, will be returned to you.
