Many residents of Transnistria go abroad, especially to Russia, to earn money, or even emigrate altogether. However, they must be prepared that documents in Transnistria for other countries require two procedures - legalization and apostille.

Civil status documents in the PMR are issued by registry offices and local village councils. Unfortunately, not a single document issued in Pridnestrovie will be recognized abroad. Considering that the majority of people leaving Transnistria go to Europe.

All European countries are included in the apostille ("The Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, October 5, 1961") and demanded on foreign documents, in particular from Moldovan ones (which also includes Transnistrian documents).

Pridnestrovie does not affix an apostille stamp and cannot legalize these documents. Translation agencies in Transnistria can help with documents only for translations for the Transnistrian region, but in no case for the provision of documents abroad, since such a translation cannot be legalized. However, PMR translation agencies do not even bother to notify their clients about this. Nobody wants to lose money.

It turns out that Pridnestrovians spend money twice - to obtain documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, civil status certificate (on unmarried) in the PMR and translation, and then in Moldova. Plus legalization or apostille.

A certificate of non-conviction from the PMR does not matter at all, and obtaining it in Transnistria is a waste of time and money (we are talking about a certificate of non-conviction for presenting it abroad).

To provide documents from the PMR in Moldova, you will need a bunch of supporting certificates and other documents.
